Mauricio Ruffi, who made his debut in the UFC Absolute Fighting Championship, called out Russian Islam Makhachev on his social networks after defeating Jamie Mullarkey.
“I have a message for Islam Makhachev. Enjoy being at the top while you can. I know you’re upset because I beat your friend. A new king is coming,” Ruffy wrote.
Ruffy defeated Mullarkey by TKO in the first round. Ruffy has ten wins and one loss in mixed martial arts.
In October 2022, Makhachev defeated Brazilian Charles Oliveira to win the lightweight title.
On February 12, 2023, Makhachev defeated Alex Volkanovski by unanimous decision after five rounds at UFC-284. This was the Russian’s first title defence.
On October 21, 2023, Makhachev earned an early victory over Australian Alex Volkanovski in the main fight of the evening at the UFC 294 tournament in Abu Dhabi. The Russian player defeated his opponent by knockout in the first round and defended his title for the second time. For the fight, Makhachev received the “best performance of the night” bonus.
