Four-time biathlon world champion Vladimir Drachev said in an interview with TASS that the International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made unacceptable demands that Russian athletes be admitted to the 2024 Games in Paris with neutral status.
According to him, the performance of Russian athletes under a neutral flag is illegal.
“Since the day the Northern Military Region was established, I have been of the opinion that trips without flags and anthems should not be held. It was one thing when there were doping scandals and we got awards under Tchaikovsky, but now it’s complete chaos and humiliation. Why follow the lead? “Who will benefit from participating in this show?” – said Drachev.
At the end of February 2022, the IOC issued a call to international sports federations and recommended that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. The organization said that in 2023 Russian athletes will be required to sign updated terms of participation, which include a commitment to respect the Olympic Charter, including the “peaceful mission of the Olympic movement”.
