Leiria defender Vitaly Lystsov said he was treated like a professional in Portugal. His words are quoted “Championship”.
“I don’t feel anything like that. They treat me like a football player, like a professional. There is absolutely no prejudice based on nationality. Everything is the same as everyone else,” said Lystsov.
Lystsov moved to Leiria in 2023. This is his second visit to the club. He previously played for the team in the 2014/15 season. Lystsov is a graduate of Lokomotiv Moscow. He played only six matches in the main team. The Russian defender also played for Benfica’s second team, Krylya Sovetov, Akhmat and Khimki.
Lystsov is the only Russian in the Portuguese Segunda. There are currently four Russians playing in Europe’s top 5 leagues. In the summer of 2023, Daler Kuzyaev (Le Havre) and Arsen Zakharyan (Real Sociedad) left the Russian Premier League (RPL). Alexander Golovin has been playing for the French Monaco for several years, and Alexey Miranchuk plays for the Italian Atalanta.
