President of the Russian Fencing Federation (RFF) Ilgar Mamedov spoke harshly about Russian athletes who want to go to the Olympic Games. His words are quoted RIA News.

“This will lead to a division in our society, this cannot be allowed. If you are only representing yourself and not a country, then you need to remember where you come from and that you are an athlete. Were you born and immediately became one? Or has the country still raised you? I understand those who have a crazy desire to go and win. “You probably want them to spit on your back because 85 percent of society doesn’t support people who go there,” he said.

In December 2023, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) allowed Russia and Belarus to participate in the 2024 Olympics with neutral status. It was also noted that they should not support the SVO or have connections with military organizations. Athletes can only compete in individual programs, they are prohibited from participating in team tournaments.

The games will start in July 2024. Russians are prohibited from attending the opening ceremony.

Previously at ISU made a statement It’s about the acceptance of Russian figure skaters.
