Belgian skater Luna Hendrix spoke about the absence of Russians in international tournaments. His words were quoted humor.
“I’m lucky the Russians didn’t perform. But I can’t do anything about it. Will their absence reduce the value of my medals? The situation is unclear but… No, this is not true. I understand that if figure skating was completely pure, I would win more medals,” Hendrix said.
In 2023, in the absence of the Russians, Hendrix won bronze at the World Championships, silver at the European Championships, and won the title of European champion in 2024.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended athletes from both countries from competitions. The last major tournament for the Russians was the Olympic Games in Beijing in February 2022.
