Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic said on his social networks that he was sorry to miss the Masters series tournament in Miami.
“Hello Miami! Unfortunately, I won’t be playing with you this year. At this point in my career, I’m trying to find a balance between my personal and professional schedules. I’m sad that I won’t be able to see some of the best and most passionate fans in the world. I look forward to future competitions here!” Djokovic wrote.
It is worth noting that Djokovic has not participated in the tournament since 2019. In the post-pandemic period, the Serbian tennis player refused to get the vaccine, which is mandatory to participate in the tournament. Last year, Djokovic was denied entry to the United States because he did not have a COVID-19 vaccination certificate and could not play in the Miami Open.
Djokovic continues to lead the Association of Professional Tennis Players (ATP) rankings (9675 points). The second place was Spanish Carlos Alcaraz (8805 points). In third place is Italian Jannik Sinner (8270 points). Russian Daniil Medvedev is in fourth place with 7715 points. Another local tennis player, Andrey Rublev, ranks 4th with 5010 points.
