12-year-old figure skater Elena Kostyleva moved to the academy of two-time Olympic champion Evgeni Plushenko. This was reported by RIA News.
On Thursday, March 14, the 12-year-old athlete performed his first training under the guidance of Plushenko’s team. He had previously studied with Igor Lyutikov at the Legend school.
This season Kostyleva won the bronze medal at the Russian vaulting championships. Eteri Tutberidze’s ward Margarita Bazylyuk won. 16-year-old Adelia Petrosyan won the silver medal.
While competing in the team tournament, Kostyleva injured her elbow. The athlete sought help from doctors to freeze, but managed to complete her performance after falling from the triple Lutz.
The International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions in spring 2022. In the 2023/24 season, they focused on domestic competitions (Russian Grand Prix stages and the national championship). Although the issue of the return of Russian athletes was brought up at the ISU meeting held in October, it was not brought to the agenda.
