Russian Football Union (RFU) President Alexander Dyukov spoke about the detention of Spartak player Quincy Promes in the UAE. His words are quoted “Sports Express”.
“How do I feel about the situation with Promes? Definitely negative. We expect behavior from football players that will set a positive example for fans and young football players. I have a certain suspicion towards the law enforcement and judicial authorities of the Netherlands. But in this case, first of all, the club needs to resolve this and decide for itself whether it is acceptable for Promes to stay in the team,” Dyukov said.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for cocaine trafficking. The hearing of the case was held on January 24, and the prosecutor’s office requested that Promesa be sentenced to 9 years in prison. The Dutchman was placed on the international wanted list on 16 February. He also has a prison sentence of 1.5 years for stabbing.
On March 1, journalist Ivan Karpov reported that Promes was detained in Dubai due to an accident. Promes fled the scene of the accident, hoping no one would notice. Later, while the football player was going through passport control to fly from the UAE to Russia, he was detained by local law enforcement and placed under house arrest.
