Russian forward and Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin emotionally congratulated his teammate Russian Ivan Miroshnichenko for his first goal in the League during the National Hockey League (NHL) regular season match against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
After scoring the puck, Miroshnichenko went to the bench, where he received congratulations from Ovechkin.
Miroshnichenko was called up from the Hershey Bears farm club on February 26. Moreover, before the match against the Penguins, the striker was on the reserve list. In total, the forward has five games in the NHL.
On May 1, 2023, Miroshnichenko officially left Avangard Omsk, one year before the end of his contract. He stated that he wanted to try his luck in the NHL and joined Washington, which selected him 20th overall in 2022.
In the spring of 2022, Miroshnichenko underwent cancer treatment. He was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a malignant disease of lymphoid tissue. In the summer of that year, the striker managed to beat cancer and was allowed to train.
Previously Kirill Kaprizov repeated another NHL club sniper record.
