On February 29, Dubai police detained Spartak Moscow football player Quincy Promes, who flew from the UAE to Russia for the Russian Premier League (RPL) match against Zenit. The reason for this was that the football player’s status was changed by Interpol due to being sued by a court in the Netherlands. This was reported by TASS.
At the time of Promes’ arrival in Dubai, he was reportedly under an Interpol Blue Notice, which requires the collection of additional personal information in connection with a criminal investigation. After the Dutch court ruled on the player’s case, the notification status was changed to “red”, which gave the authorities of a particular country justification to arrest a fugitive from justice.
On February 14, an Amsterdam court sentenced Promes to six years in prison for cocaine trafficking. The hearing of the case was held on January 24, and the prosecutor’s office requested that Promesa be sentenced to 9 years in prison. On 16 February, the Dutchman was placed on the international wanted list.
On February 22, RBC reported that Promes was ready to testify in person in the Amsterdam court, provided that he was not arrested.
Previously reportedIt was stated that Promes will miss the match against Zenit due to a trial in the UAE.
