Three-time Olympic champion in figure skating Irina Rodnina admitted that there is no point in appealing to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) over the redistribution of medals in the team tournament of the 2022 Olympic Games. “RB Sports”.
“What is the point of appealing the ISU decision now? I wonder, with whose money such a vibrant activity took place? Maybe it’s government money? Or sponsorship? In general, applying for CAS is now like shooting at the sky. I wish them all good luck in court, but I don’t see the point of this objection,” Rodnina said.
Objections were made separately by the Russian Olympic Committee, the Russian Figure Skating Federation and the Russian skaters on the team.
In January 2024, CAS disqualified Kamila Valieva, who was on the national team at the tournament, for an anti-doping rule violation. The skater was suspended for four years, effective from December 2021, and was stripped of all awards won during that period.
After the disqualification, the International Skating Union (ISU) awarded the Russians third place in the team tournament of the 2022 Olympic Games, without depriving Russia as a whole of the medal. Gold went to the US team and silver went to the Japanese team.
Previously Tatyana Tarasova statedHe does not believe in the success of the skaters’ appeal to CAS.
