Columbus Blue Jackets’ Russian forward Dmitry Voronkov ranked first in power play goals among rookies this season of the National Hockey League (NHL).
Voronkov scored Buffalo Sabers’ goal in the 13th minute of the first half of the regular season match, while his assistants were the team’s Russian hockey players Kirill Marchenko and Ivan Provorov.
For Voronkov, it was his 15th goal in his first season in the NHL. He tied New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes for the most with four power-play goals. Anaheim Ducks forward Leo Karlsson and Philadelphia Flyers forward Tyson Forster each made three accurate shots.
Voronkov became the second hockey player in Columbus history to score at least 15 goals in his first 50 games with the team. The first to do so was Marchenko, who scored 20 goals in his first 50 matches.
Voronkov signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Columbus Blue Jackets on May 4, 2023. On October 30, 2023, the hockey player scored his first goal in the NHL. Before that, he played for the Kontinental Hockey League club Ak Bars in Russia, as well as Ermak, Bars and Irbis.
The match ended with Columbus losing 1:2.
