Russian forward and Washington Capitals captain Alexander Ovechkin extended his goal streak in this season’s National Hockey League (NHL) regular season, now reaching nine games.
On the night of February 21, Ovechkin scored a triple, a double, and an assist in a game against the New Jersey Devils. The match ended with the victory of the capital with a score of 6:3.
The Russian striker last failed to score in the match against Minnesota Wild on January 24 (3:5).
This season, the capital’s captain scored a total of 41 (16+25) points in 51 games in the regular season of the National Hockey League. Ovechkin’s contract with the club totaling $47.5 million ($9.5 million per season) expires in 2026.
The hockey player closed the gap on the legendary Canadian Wayne Gretzky in the race of the best snipers in the history of the National Hockey League. Gretzky has scored 894 goals in his career, Ovechkin currently has 838 goals, the difference is 56 goals.
Washington scored 58 points to finish 11th in the NHL Eastern Conference. The Capitals’ victory over the New Jersey Devils was their second consecutive victory. In the next match, the capital will play away against Tampa Bay Lightning.
