Italian tennis player Jannik Sinner defeated Australian Alex de Minaur in the final of the ATP-500 tournament held in Rotterdam (Netherlands).
22-year-old Sinner, who won the 12th title of his career, will rise to third place in the updated rankings of the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP), ahead of Russian Daniil Medvedev, who fell to fourth place for the first time. The updated rating will be published on February 19.
At the end of January, Medvedev reached the final of the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam tournament on the calendar. In the main match of the tournament, Russia lost to Sinner in five sets with scores of 3:6, 3:6, 6:4, 6:4, 6:3. Medvedev won the first two sets but then lost three games. Medvedev failed to reach the Australian Open final for the third time.
Medvedev became the first tennis player in the Open era to lose two Australian Open finals and take a 2-0 lead in sets. In 2022, the Russian lost to Spanish Rafael Nadal in the final match for the championship with scores of 2:6, 6:7 (5:7), 6:4, 6:4, 7:5.
