Football manager Timur Gurtskaya talked about replacing Spartak head coach Guillermo Abascal with Serbian specialist Marko Nikolic. His words are quoted Metatations.
“Will Nikolic replace Abascal? If this happens, it will be the best thing that happened to Spartak in the 21st century. Can only he save Spartak? No, not just Nikolic. But this is an obvious salvation for the club,” said Gurtskaya.
Abaskal took over as head of Spartak before the start of the 2022/23 season. He extended his contract with the team with a salary increase as the season progressed. Last season, under his leadership, the red and white team came third in the Russian Championship. In the winter, the media reported that Abascal could lead the Spanish Cadiz.
Spartak, which has been playing for 18 weeks in the Russian Premier League (RPL), is in fifth place in the rankings with 30 points. Krasnodar entered the winter break as leaders of the RPL with 38 points. Zenit is in second place with two points missing. Dinamo (32 points) completed the top three.
It is also worth noting that Nikolic previously worked in Russia and coached Lokomotiv. Under his leadership, the “railway” team won the Russian Cup in the 2020/21 season.
