Dmitry Aliev, the 2020 European champion in single skating, said that after his unsuccessful performance in the short program at the Spartakiad of the Strongest, he had no motivation to compete in local competitions. His words lead the way RIA News.

“We have had the same participants since the beginning. Everything is fine, but only the name of the beginning changes. I was very excited when I competed with Xavi (Fernandez) in the European years… All starts are the same for me here. They’re cool, I don’t argue, but I’m so used to men that you go out and think… I don’t want to insult the guys, but I don’t have that impulse,” said the athlete.

On February 16, the skater made mistakes during the short program skating at Spartakiad in Magnitogorsk. He achieved the eighth result with 88.99 points.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended Russian and Belarusian athletes from competitions. Although the issue of the return of Russian athletes was brought up at the ISU meeting held in October, it was not brought to the agenda.
