Skate Canada, the Canadian figure skating federation, has appealed the International Skating Union’s (ISU) decision to redistribute the 2022 Olympics figure skating team’s medals. In this respect reports TASS.
Skate Canada insists that due to the disqualification of Russian Kamila Valieva, the athletes of the Canadian team should receive bronze medals, and representatives of the Russian team should be deprived of medals.
Initially, tournament medals were distributed as follows: Russia won gold, the United States received silver, Japan received bronze, and Canada finished fourth. After the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) banned Kamila Valieva for four years, the International Skating Union (ISU) reviewed the results of the team competition and awarded Russia a bronze award due to the disqualification of the athlete’s results.
On February 7, the ISU released a statement saying that the decision to redistribute team tournament medals was made based on a comprehensive evaluation by legal experts and was in accordance with the decision made by the CAS panel.
