Anastasia Tatareva won the Olympic gold medal in the all-around at the 2016 Rio Games. She won an Olympic silver medal in the same discipline at the Tokyo Olympics. Tatareva has won the European Games twice, is a six-time world champion and five-time European champion.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

At the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee on March 28, it was proposed to allow the Russians to maintain neutral status if their athletes do not take an active part in supporting military operations.
