Russian swimmer sentenced to five years in prison for doping

Igor Golovin, multiple medalist at the Russian swimming championships, was disqualified for five years for doping RIA News Referring to the database of the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA).

The countdown date for disqualification was accepted as January 19, 2024; the athlete was found guilty of violating articles 4.1 and 4.2 of the All-Russian Anti-Doping Rules.

Golovin, 34, won the bronze medal in the 50 meter distance at the 2014 Russian Championships. The last time an athlete stood on the podium in the 50-meter short track was in 2019.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

At the meeting of the IOC Executive Committee on March 28, 2023, it was proposed to allow the Russians to remain in neutral status if the athletes are not actively involved in supporting military operations.
