An Amsterdam court sentenced Spartak Moscow’s football player Quincy Promes to six years in prison for cocaine trafficking. This was reported by journalist Wesley Meyer on the social network X.
The hearing of the case was held on January 24, and the prosecutor’s office requested that Promesa be sentenced to 9 years in prison. The striker is currently in the red-whites training camp in the UAE.
In 2020, in the Belgian port of Antwerp, police seized two drug shipments with a total weight of approximately 1,370 kg. According to investigators, the cargo belonged to Promes. It was also claimed that the athlete had a connection with drug dealer Pete Wartel, to whom he paid 250 thousand Euros in exchange for the missing cocaine “for his own safety”.
According to prosecutors, Wartel and Promes were part of a large criminal network. Allegedly, the football player was one of the leaders of the group. The prosecutor’s office presented records of telephone conversations in which Promes talked about investing 75 thousand euros in drug trafficking and organizing the delivery of banned substances.
Promes has been playing for Spartak since February 2021. This is his second time joining the team. He played for the red-whites between 2014 and 2018. The Dutch player became the Russian champion with the team in the 2016/17 season. The striker played 17 matches in the Russian Championship this season and scored six goals and six assists in these matches.
