Washington Capitals hockey players congratulated Russian forward and team captain Alexander Ovechkin for breaking Canada’s Wayne Gretzky’s goal-scoring record. The corresponding video was published by the capital’s press service on the X social network.
Ovechkin scored a goal against the Boston Bruins in the regular season match of the National Hockey League (NHL) (3:0), scoring the puck in the last minute of the game. During his career, the Russian hockey player scored 57 goals in open goals in 1,394 games in the NHL regular championship. Gretzky has 56 goals in 1,487 games.
In the locker room after the game, his teammates and head coach Spencer Carbery congratulated Ovechkin and gave him a puck as a souvenir.
The Russian forward played a total of 47 games in the regular season of the National Hockey League this season and scored 12 goals and 23 assists in these games.
Ovechkin continues to break Gretzky’s sniping record. The Russian has 834 goals. The legendary Canadian scored 894 goals in his NHL career; Ovechkin is now 60 goals behind him.
