“I was really sick. My throat hurts and unfortunately it is difficult for me to talk anymore. I hope everything will be fine in the near future,” said Tarasova.
On February 10, Match TV reported that Tarasova was ill.
In early February, a plane carrying Tarasova and other figure skating coaches crashed while landing at Saransk airport. The plane went off the runway and crashed into a snowbank. No harm was done.
Tarasova’s wards include world, European and Olympic champions: Irina Rodnina and Alexander Zaitsev, Natalya Bestemyanova and Andrey Bukin, Oksana Grischuk and Evgeny Platov, Ilya Kulik, Alexey Yagudin. Athletes trained by Tarasova won a total of 41 gold medals at the World and European Championships, as well as seven Olympic medals.
