European champion in freestyle wrestling, Russian Azamat Tuskaev, changed his sports citizenship. The Russian Wrestling Federation reports this on its social networks.
Tuskaev will now represent the Serbian national team on the international stage.
The wrestler was born in North Ossetia. At the 2013 Russian Freestyle Wrestling Championships held in Krasnoyarsk, Tuskaev won the bronze medal in the up to 55 kg weight category. In 2015, he won the bronze medal in the up to 57 kg weight category.
At the 2020 European Championships held in Rome, Tuskayev defeated Turkish representative Süleyman Atlı in the final match and won the gold medal in the weight category up to 57 kilograms.
The Russian athlete won the silver medal at the World Cup held in Los Angeles in 2016.
Russian and Belarusian athletes have been suspended from international competitions since March 2022 due to a special military operation on Ukrainian territory. Such a decision was taken in line with recommendations made by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude Russians and Belarusians from any international competitions.
