Former CSKA Moscow football player Vladimir Ponomarev said in an interview with socialbites.ca that Russia should defend its right to the gold medal in the 2022 Olympic team figure skating tournament in the Lausanne Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

According to him, there is no need to fear a possible defeat in the trial for fear of losing the bronze medal.

“We must definitely go to court and object to the decision to deprive us of the gold medal. We need to agree with the IOC and the International Figure Skating Federation, it is not good that they humiliate Russia again. “To hell with them if they take the bronze from us, we will say our harsh words anyway,” Ponomarev said.

On January 29, CAS sentenced Kamila Valieva to a four-year suspension for violating anti-doping rules due to the presence of a banned substance in her blood. The penalty period begins in December 2021.

Following the disqualification, the International Skating Union (ISU) awarded the Russians third place in the team, without depriving Russia of the overall medal. Gold went to the US team and silver went to the Japanese team.
