Hamilton leaves Mercedes: the hardest decision of his life

Seven-time Formula 1 champion and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton said in his social networks that leaving the team was the most difficult decision in his life.

“Mercedes has been an integral part of my life since I was 13 years old. This decision was the hardest decision I have ever had to make. “I am incredibly proud of everything we have accomplished together,” Hamilton said.

The British driver will join Ferrari in the 2025 season and become Charles Leclerc’s teammate. He’s in Ferrari will stay one of the highest paid Formula 1 pilots.

The Briton’s decision surprised Mercedes management. Following the news of Hamilton’s imminent departure, British media reported that Mercedes held an internal meeting on February 1.

Hamilton joined Mercedes from inaugural champions McLaren in 2013 and won six world championships with the team. Hamilton’s current contract with Mercedes runs until the end of 2025.

The driver has not won since 2021.
