Former Spartak Moscow coach Massimo Carrera said he would have no problem accepting the invitation to lead the Russian national team. His words are quoted Sports24.
“During my time at Spartak, I was not offered any opportunities to work with the Russian national team.
Did I have the ambition to lead the Russian national team? If that were the case then I would consider it. I will have no problems accepting the offer to lead the Russian national team,” Carrera said.
Carrera worked at Spartak from 2016 to 2018. Under his leadership, the red-whites became Russian champions for the first time in 16 years. Muscovites won the Russian Super Cup in 2017. After leaving Spartak, Carrera worked for AEK and Bari.
Since 2021, the Russian national team has been led by Valery Karpin. Under his leadership, the national team finished second in the 2022 World Cup qualifying tournament and advanced to the play-offs. The Russians were unable to organize these matches due to the suspension and have not held official meetings since the spring of 2022.
