Former CSKA Moscow defender Vladimir Ponomarev said in an interview with socialbites.ca that he believes that FIFA’s decision in the case of Norwegian midfielder Mathias Norman, who was rewarded with a debt of 2.9 million euros for illegally terminating his contract with Rostov, was correct.
According to him, such decisions allow us to talk about the importance of Russian football in the world.
“This is very good news; a football player must pay a penalty for defecting despite his valid contract. “There was no force majeure, so this can be considered a very good sign, which shows that our football is still taken into account in the world,” said Ponomarev.
According to FIFA documents, Normann could be disqualified if Rostov is not compensated. At the same time, Al-Raed, where the midfielder plays, is jointly and severally responsible for this payment. The Saudi club faces a ban on registering new players.
Norman, whose rights belong to Rostov, became an Al-Raed football player on August 20, 2023. He spent last season on loan at Dinamo Moscow. Russian clubs did not announce the termination of the contract with the Norwegian player. It was later learned that the clubs contacted FIFA.
Previously Vladimir Ponomarev named Spartak defender Georgiy Dzhikiya as the cooks’ player.
