Former captain of the Russian national football team started his coaching career

Igor Denisov, former captain of the Russian national football team, became the coach of the team at the Moscow Torpedo academy in 2011. This was reported by press service club.

For 39-year-old Denisov, this will be his first coaching experience. Torpedo’s main team currently plays in the First League. The automakers ranked eighth in the standings, collecting 27 points in 20 rounds before the winter break.

Denisov played for Zenit St. Petersburg during his playing career. He played for St. Petersburg, Anzhi Makhachkala, Dinamo Moscow and Lokomotiv Moscow teams. Former football player, four-time Russian champion, twice winner of the Russian Cup, the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Super Cup.

As part of the Russian national team, Denisov played 54 matches, in which he made two assists. He participated in the 2012 European Championship and the 2014 World Championship, in both tournaments the Russian team could not advance past the group stage.
