A court in St. Petersburg detained for two months Russian mixed martial arts (MMA) fighter Denis Dzhivovsky, who participated in an armed conflict on Ukrainian territory. This was reported by “lenta.ru”.
The athlete is charged with Part 3 of Article 208 (“Participation of a citizen of the Russian Federation in an armed conflict on the territory of a foreign state using weapons and military equipment for purposes contrary to the interests of Russia”). Criminal Code of the Russian Federation.
The period of detention will be calculated from the moment the person is actually detained on the territory of Russia or, in case of extradition or deportation, from the moment of his transfer to Russian law enforcement authorities.
According to the investigation, knowing the goals of the special military operation, Dzhivovsky voluntarily joined the ranks of the territorial defense of Kiev, where he took part in military operations against Russia. After that, he joined the ranks of the military formation “Russian Volunteer Corps” (recognized as a terrorist organization in the Russian Federation) (RDK), which was subordinate to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
In August 2012, the Baza Telegram channel reported that a treason case had been opened against Dzhivovsky. According to him, the athlete went to Ukraine in 2020.
In his professional MMA career, Dzhivovsky has seven victories in 11 fights.
