Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva was defeated in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open held in Melbourne.
She lost to Russian Barbora Krejcikova in the fourth round match. The match, which lasted 2 hours and 2 minutes, ended with the athlete from the Czech Republic scoring 4:6, 6:3, 6:2.
The Czech Republic will play against the world’s second player, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, in the quarter-finals of the Australian Open.
16-year-old Andreeva played in the main draw of the Australian Open for the first time. Last season, She reached the third round at Roland Garros, the fourth round at Wimbledon and the second round at the US Open.
In the updated rankings of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA), Andreeva is ranked 47th.
Russian tennis players continue to participate in international tournaments as neutral athletes. The only tournament they missed was Wimbledon in 2022. Sanctions were imposed because the organizers did not allow Russian tennis players to participate in the tournament.
