Russian tennis player Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, after being eliminated from the Australian Open, said that there were drunk spectators in the stands who interfered with her play with their behavior during the match. The athlete’s words were quoted iNews.

“It was noisy, like in a restaurant; people were talking, eating and drinking. I don’t know if they watched the match. There were a few guys who got drunk and started yelling and meowing at me. I thought maybe it was because of the tattoo on my leg or maybe they had had a little drink. It wasn’t nice. I was sad,” Pavlyuchenkova shared.

In the second round of the Australian Open, Pavlyuchenkova lost to Spanish representative Paula Badosa. The match, which lasted 1 hour and 12 minutes, ended with two sets of 6:2 and 6:3.

Russian tennis players continue to participate in international tournaments as neutral athletes. The only tournament they missed was Wimbledon in 2022. Sanctions were imposed because the organizers did not allow Russian tennis players to participate in the tournament.

The current winner of the Australian Open is Belarusian Arina Sabalenka.
