Saudi Al-Ittihad football player Karim Benzema filed a lawsuit against French Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin for his remarks regarding the player’s connection with the Muslim Brotherhood movement (banned in the Russian Federation). AFP reports this.
In October, the French forward wrote a post on the social network X in support of the people of Gaza. Darmanen responded to the striker’s post, saying he “has an infamous connection to the Muslim Brotherhood.”
The lawsuit says these words undermined his honor and reputation as an athlete. Benzema claims that he “has never had the slightest connection with this organization and, as far as he knows, does not know anyone who claims to be a member of the organization.”
At the end of December, Benzema left Saudi Arabia. He missed Al Ittihad’s last training sessions. The reasons for the football player’s departure were not disclosed. After his vacation, he did not attend the team meeting and was suspended.
Benzema joined Al Ittihad in June 2023. The striker, who played 15 matches in the league this season, recorded 9 goals and 5 assists.
Benzema has been playing for Real Madrid for the last 14 years. The forward has won the Spanish title four times, won the Spanish Cup three times and won the Champions League five times.
