Russian tennis player Roman Safiullin lost to Dutch Tallon Grixpoor in the first round of the Australian Open held in Melbourne with scores of 6:2, 6:3, 6:7, 4:6, 5:7 and left the tournament.
The duration of the meeting lasted 3 hours and 50 minutes. Safiullin made 16 aces, committed four double faults and converted 4 of 14 break points.
Grixpor will face French representative Arthur Fis in the next round.
After Safiullin’s departure, four Russians remain in the Australian Open. These are Karen Khachanov, Pavel Kotov, Andrei Rublev and Daniil Medvedev.
The total prize fund of the tournament is $58.128 million.
In the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) rankings, Safiullin is ranked 36th (1190 points) and Grikspor is ranked 31st (1410 points). Novak Djokovic continues to lead with 11,055 points. Spanish Carlos Alcaraz ranks second with 8855 points. Daniil Medvedev (7555 points) is in the top three. Fifth place is another Russian Andrey Rublev (5010 points).
Medvedev had previously made his Australian Open debut it’s called a check.
