Vladimir Ponomarev, former defender of CSKA Moscow and the USSR national team, said in an interview with socialbites.ca that the army team can compete for a place in the top 3 in the spring part of the Russian Premier League (RPL) season.

According to him, the red-blue team is quite capable of closing the gap with the leader.

“Judging by CSKA’s performance, it is in eighth place, the team does not deserve such a result. I think that with such a squad in the spring, the army team can compete for the top three. The team has solid, good play, excellent player selection, so I’m looking forward to fighting for second or third place. “We won’t be able to achieve the first one, we need to be equipped for that, but we can fight for the medal,” Ponomarev said.

CSKA ranked eighth in the Russian Premier League (RPL) rankings with 28 points after 18 weeks. The Russian Championship will continue on March 1, 2024, on this day the first matches of the 19th round of the RPL will be held.

The team led by Vladimir Fedotov will continue the season with a home match against Orenburg. David Deogracia’s team entered the winter break in 14th place in the standings.

Previously coach Boris Ignatiev guess Ilzat Akhmetov is on the bench at Zenit.
