Russian Tennis Federation President Shamil Tarpishchev said that Russian tennis player Aslan Karatsev, who was injured in January, will undergo surgery and will stay away from the fields for about 6 months due to recovery. His words guide the way TASS.
“Karatsev will have surgery this week. After that, he’ll miss six months, counting recovery. This is very disappointing,” Tarpishchev said.
Karatsev was injured in the first round of the ATP-250 series tournament held in Brisbane on January 2. The tennis player, who played with US representative Jason Kubler, refused to compete in the second set due to his injury. As journalist Stephanie Miles wrote, Karatsev was carried from the field in a stroller “with a large ice pack on his knee.”
Karatsev is the first and so far the only tennis player in the history of the Open era to reach the semifinals of the first Grand Slam tournament (Australian Open 2021). She won a silver medal in mixed doubles with Elena Vesnina at the 2020 Olympic Games and has also won the Association of Tennis Professionals tournament award four times in her career, winning three singles titles. Karatsev won the Davis Cup and ATP Cup in 2021 as part of the Russian national team.
