40-year-old Spartak Moscow forward Ilya Kovalchuk played against St. Petersburg in the regular season match of the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). He scored against St. Petersburg SKA. The meeting took place at the club’s St. It ended with a win from St. Petersburg with a score of 5:2.

Kovalchuk scored his 400th point in the KHL, becoming the second hockey player in history to score 400 or more points in the KHL and National Hockey League (NHL). The first of them was Alexander Radulov, who is now defending the colors of Ak Bars.

This season Kovalchuk played six games for Spartak in the KHL, scoring three goals and one assist.

Kovalchuk signed a contract with Spartak in December 2023. He previously played for the Red and Whites between 1999 and 2001. Together with the club, he became the champion of the Major League.

In 2021, he won the Gagarin Cup three times as part of Omsk Avangard and decided to suspend his activities as a player.

In the National Hockey League (NHL), Kovalchuk played in Atlanta, New Jersey, Washington and Montreal.
