Tatyana Tarasova, honored coach of figure skating of the USSR, admitted that Russia is interested in watching the European Figure Skating Championships, despite its suspension TASS.
“It’s interesting to watch, but it’s hard to talk about. It’s hard to watch without the Russians. There are a lot of Russian girls, for example Gubanova plays for Georgia. She’s third now, but in my opinion, she could also be second, but…” said Tarasova.
At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. For this reason, the International Skating Union (ISU) suspended athletes from both countries from competitions. The last major tournament for the Russians was the Olympic Games in Beijing in February 2022.
TASS reported that the 2024 European Figure Skating Championships, which will be held in Kaunas, Lithuania, on January 10, will be held with the participation of 27 athletes born in Russia. The competition will take place between January 10-14.
