Old Zenit St. Petersburg football player Vladislav Radimov explained why the blue-whites signed a contract with midfielder Ilzat Akhmetov. His words are quoted “Match TV”.
“Zenith need this transfer to expand the pool of players who can compete for higher places. He proved that he is ready for this in Krasnodar. This is a challenge for him. After all, Zenit is a club that has been RPL champions for the last five seasons. Every player wants to join such a team dreams.
RPL teams playing against Zenit are closing down and displaying defensive football. “Akhmetov is a football player who can beat his opponent alone and thus provide an advantage to the team,” he said.
On January 9, Akhmetov moved from Krasnodar to Zenit. The 26-year-old midfielder’s contract runs until the end of the 2025/26 season and has the option to extend for another year.
Akhmetov made his debut in the Russian Premier League (RPL) in 2014 as part of Rubin Kazan. He played for the club for four years. Later, the midfielder played for CSKA for four years. In 2018 he and his club won the Russian Super Cup. In 2022 Akhmetov became a Krasnodar player.
The midfielder played 21 matches in all competitions for Krasnodar this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in these matches. In total, Akhmetov appeared in 61 games for the Bulls, scoring seven goals and recording eight assists.
