Tarasova accused the International Skating Union of disrespecting Russia

USSR Honored Coach Tatyana Tarasova described the International Skating Union’s (ISU) announcement of the 2024 European Championships in Kaunas as disrespectful to Russian athletes. He shared his opinion with him RIA News.

The announcement did not include a photo of Togliatti native Anastasia Gubanova, the current champion in single skating and competing for Georgia.

“Gubanova won the European championship last year but it was not published in the announcement. This is just disrespectful to the Russian people! ISU has no right to do this, it just doesn’t have the right,” Tarasova said.

In a post on Instagram (the owner of the company Meta is known as an extremist and is banned in Russia) the ISU published photos of the current champions in each discipline, but in women’s singles skating the photo is not of Gubanova, it was published. but the second is from Belgian Luna Hendricks. Later, ISU corrected itself and added Gubanov.

EURO 2024 will be held in Kaunas between 10-14 January.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that Russian and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions.

The International Skating Union suspended athletes from both countries from competition. The last major tournament for the Russians was the Olympic Games in Beijing in February 2022.
