In the summer of 2019, the athlete received an anonymous letter stating that “all Japanese fans hate him.”
“This note had nothing to do with figure skating. This note was about one of the athletes’ personal relationship with me. And they didn’t want to see me next to him, not in figure skating. His fans. This is personal, this is not a sport. At that time, no one was interested in sports, whether I did sports or not,” Medvedeva said.
Medvedeva finished second in the individual championship and team tournament at the 2018 Olympics. The winner in women’s singles was again Russian Alina Zagitova. She was one point ahead of Medvedeva. After the Games, Medvedeva switched from Eteri Tutberidze to Canadian specialist Brian Orser, but returned to Khrustalny two years later.
