Olympic relay champion, five-time world champion, Norwegian biathlete Sturla Holm Lægreid talked about the details of her throw at the hotel before the mass start. His words are quoted NRK.
“The difference is that this time we received the cartridges at the hotel, not in the back room as usual. While doing my usual dry training, I accidentally shot the wall on the training ground.
I spent a few hours at the police station yesterday. I gave a statement, the police are filling out the documents and all the formalities, but they said there would probably be no consequences,” said Lægreid.
Laegreid was disqualified from participating in the mass start in the third stage of the World Cup in Switzerland because of his shot. The bullet hit the wall during training, but no casualties occurred.
Since spring 2022, Russian biathletes have not been able to participate in international tournaments due to suspension. In September 2022, the International Biathlon Union (IBU) extended the suspension indefinitely.
