State Duma fears punishment for Red Star for fans’ pro-Russian behavior

State Duma deputy and Olympic speed skating champion Svetlana Zhurova admitted that she was not surprised by the behavior of the fans of the Serbian Red Star, who sang the song “Katyusha” during the Champions League match against Manchester City. His words were quoted legal betting.

“The main thing is that the Serbs are not punished for these chants. And so they are wonderful. We support the Serbs. They are the only people in Europe who are doing their best to support us. They do this sincerely, you don’t even have to ask. They feel everything themselves. This is just their initiative, if someone says that this is special propaganda of the Kremlin, then they are very mistaken,” Zhurova said.

The match played between Red Star and Manchester City ended with the English team winning with a score of 3:2. Pep Guardiola’s team won all six matches in the group stage and advanced to the knockout stage of the tournament from first place. The Serbians finished their performance in European competitions with fourth place in the group.

Russian clubs have not been able to participate in European competitions since spring 2022 due to the suspension.
