Chairman of the Referee Committee of the Russian Football Union (RFU) Pavel Kamantsev spoke about the lifetime suspension of five referees from football in the corruption case involving the former director of Chaika. His words are quoted “Match TV”.
“During the investigation of the criminal case, the names of former referees who were involved in the match-fixing organization were identified: these are Anton Kachanov, Denis Mezentsev, Denis Stepanishchev, Sergei Kostevich and Maxim Matyunin. They were all banned from football for life. Other referees who spoke in court also participated in the case as witnesses,” said Kamantsev.
Former Chaika director Oleg Bayan bribed judges to get his team a positive result from 2018 to 2019. On December 13, he was fined 1.8 million rubles.
In 2021, the Control and Disciplinary Committee of the Russian Football Union transferred Chaika from the First League to the Second League. The club currently plays in Russia’s third most important league. In early December, head coach Igor Semshov left the team.
