The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine commented on its official website about the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to allow athletes from Russia and Belarus to participate in the Games with neutral status.
The ministry said the IOC Executive Committee’s decision was erroneous.
“Belarusian and especially Russian athletes often represent sports organizations affiliated with the armed forces of the Russian Federation,” the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry said.
Russian athletes who rank well in their own disciplines will be allowed to compete.
In 2022, against the background of the start of SVO in Ukraine, the president of the International Olympic Committee Thomas Bach recommended that international federations exclude Russian athletes from international competitions. On January 25, 2023, the IOC announced that it was considering the possibility of allowing Russian athletes who do not support the holding of the SBO to participate in international competitions in a neutral status.
The Paris Olympic Games will take place between July 26 and August 11, 2024.
Previously coach of the Russian national gymnastics team opposed IOC conditions.
