American skater of Russian origin won the Grand Prix final 17:10

Russian-American figure skater Ilya Malinin won the singles skating final at the final of the international Grand Prix series held in Beijing.

According to the results of the short and free program, Malinin received 314.66 points. Next up were two-time world champion Japanese Shoma Uno (297.34) and his compatriot Yuma Kagiyama (288.65).

In September 2022, 19-year-old Malinin cleanly performed the quadruple axel in the free program for the first time in history at the US International Classic tournament in Lake Placid (New York, USA). He was included in the Guinness Book of Records for the performance of this element.

At the end of February 2022, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) appealed to international sports federations, recommending that domestic and Belarusian athletes not be allowed to participate in any competitions. After the 2022 Beijing Olympics, Russian figure skaters could not participate in international competitions due to penalties.
