Tampa Bay Lightning head coach John Cooper expressed his opinion that the team’s Russian forward Nikita Kucherov is the best player in the National Hockey League (NHL) right now. His words are quoted by Yıldırım press service.
“There are a lot of great players in this league, they are the best in the world, but right now he (Kucherov) is at the top. “It shows an elite level,” said the expert.
On the night of December 7, Moscow time, Tampa beat the Pittsburgh Penguins (3:1) in the NHL regular season. Kucherov recorded one goal and one assist. After the meeting, he was chosen as the second star of the match.
Kucherov leads the race for top scorers in the current NHL season. The Russian striker recorded 17 goals and 27 assists in 26 matches.
Kucherov previously broke the club record for the fastest time to reach 40 points in a season. It took 24 matches to achieve this. The previous record was held by Tampa Bay captain Steven Stamkos. The Canadian forward scored 40 points in 25 games in the 2010/2011 season.
