French first division club Nantes reported the death of a fan who was stabbed before this Saturday’s league match against Nice at the Beaujoire stadium (which Nantes won 1-0).
The West French club said in a statement that the victim was a 31-year-old man who was stabbed in the back. At first it was received earnestly, but eventually it surrendered.
Expressing his condolences to the victim’s family, Nantes said, “The French Prosecutor’s Office informed us that an investigation has been opened for premeditated murder. Many witnesses were heard last night.” said.
“The club regrets the loss of life under these circumstances,” the organization said. he added.
According to L’Équipe, the young man was a member of the ultra group Brigade Loire and the perpetrator of the stabbing could possibly have been the driver of a vehicle carrying Nice fans.
