Ukrainian Shakhtar defender Valeriy Bondar spoke about the clash with Antwerp players after the fifth round match of the Champions League group stage. His remarks were reported by ua.tribuna.com.
“There their number 11 approached Azarov and started shouting very bad words at him in English. Janssen was there, wanting something again, jumping from place to place. But I understand them; They were eliminated, they did not get a single point, they wanted to provoke us somehow and demoralize us. We still have an important match, we had to control our emotions,” said Bondar.
On 28 November, Shakhtar beat Antwerp with a score of 1:0. Nikolai Matvienko scored the only goal. After the final whistle of the match, there was an argument between team players. As a result of the episode, Antwerp’s striker Muja Arbnor received a red card and Shakhtar goalkeeper Dmytro Riznyk received a yellow card.
After five matches, Shakhtar are in third place with nine points but still have a chance of qualifying for the play-offs. Porto also has the same score. The teams will face each other in the last match of the group stage.
