The Canadian Gymnastics Team suspended coach Elena Davydova. This is stated on the official website of the organization.
Reasons for the suspension were not reported. It was noted that he will not be able to work until the investigation carried out by the Office of the Sports Integrity Commissioner (OSIC) is completed.
As a member of the USSR national team, Davydova twice became an Olympic champion and once won the World Championships. He moved to Canada in 1999 and has worked as a coach and referee ever since.
Sports lawyer Emir Taç in November reportedElvira Saadi, two-time Olympic champion in artistic gymnastics (1972, 1976) as part of the USSR national team, was disqualified for life in Canada.
Saadi was banned from practicing artistic gymnastics in Canada for ten years. He will be able to return to his coaching role within ten years, but will not have contact with athletes. Saadi’s disqualification as a judge, manager and coach will be lifelong.
Saadi has lived in Canada since 1991. The disqualification decision was made by Gymnastics Canada.
The lifetime ban stems from Saadi’s use of violence against Canadian national team athletes.
