The young Spain international is out for the entire season and the Catalans could sign someone in his place during the next market period.

Gavi’s injury is a big problem for Barcelona. Although the Catalans have a more complete team than last season, the Spain international is a fundamental piece for Xavi; a versatile presence in midfield who leaves everything for the shield. Those players are not easy to find and almost impossible to replace.

Barça sporting director Deco admitted it on Wednesday in statements to Mundo Deportivo: “Today Gavi is a player who cannot be replaced. There is no player available on the market to do his job, even with his mentality , nor with their skill.

But that doesn’t mean help can’t be sought to strengthen Barcelona’s midfield. While an equal player is impossible, an additional footballer, ideally with a high pace of play and creative skills, would certainly soften this crushing blow. Yet it is easier said than done.

Barça is once again struggling to get money. A new “financial lever” implemented this summer has not worked and the club is reportedly still waiting for more than €40 million from an unreliable investor. A signing with a lot of money is therefore not possible.

But there is room for optimism here. Gavi’s injury provides some financial margin in Catalonia, as Barça can use 80 percent of his salary in the transfer market. While that may not be enough to make a big impact, it could certainly facilitate a loan move or secure a cheap option to fill a midfield spot over the next six months.
